Alabama Gambling
Attorney General, Troy King and Alabama Governor Bob Riley are betting the odds of an electronic bingo gambling issue. According to the Attorney General, Governor Riley has taken the disagreement too far. Media say Troy King has filed a brief on the Governor’s stance of the issue and the Governor’s way of the law. King says that filing the brief was not something he had planned on doing but something he did not have a choice but to do as he had been entrusted with the Attorney General’s office. He concludes that the gambling issue was an attempt to strip away powers that have belonged to the attorney general since 1819.

On the other hand the Governor has not made a secret of his desire of electronic bingo machines. Lately a Judge had disagreed with the Governor’s interpretation of the law, and ordered the state to return over hundred electronic machines to White Hall.
The governor has appealed the decision to the state Supreme Court. Both parties have agreed that the raids that were conducted on White Hall were for testing future raids. King believes that he wants the power the governor has trusted him with.
The State Law says that the attorney general will have to appellate all matters on behalf of the state, which means only the attorney general can decide if the state is going to appeal a case. In turn the governor’s office has refused to accept that the electronic bingo gambling machines were being operated legally and have responded to the attorney general’s statements.
Troy King believes that only the attorney general has the authority to appoint an assistant and refuses to accept David Barber, head of the Gambling Task Force, who was recently appointed by the Governor.
It was observed that the Governor has intended to fight anyone who refuses his opinion on the issue of gambling. The Governor has battled the attorney general, various lawmakers, and a judge who ruled that the gambling slot machines be made legal. The issue of gambling has taken a personal touch by Governor Riley.
